Ioan Bogomil

Life, path and the search for truth

Man was created through the word, and the word must awaken him from his earthly sleep, show him the way, save him for eternity. It is clear that this word must be special, unusual, golden.

Childhood and first steps

Ioan Bogomil is an anointed chosen one: a prophet, mystic, writer and musician, the author of more than 800 books and musical performances. He was born in 1946 into an educated family.

With bright memories I recall my childhood, spent in the summers in Ukraine with my closest relatives. He graduated from the Maurice Thorez Institute of Foreign Languages (1970).

From the age of 13 he wrote poetry actively. At 17, the editors of the magazine “Yunost” and the newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda” offered to publish him. He refused: he felt his calling lay elsewhere.

The search for truth

While travelling on a train he received his first revelation: “You have read more than 10,000 books, but do you know the truth?” A spiritual crisis followed. He left his past behind and set out to find a guide to the truth.

His path into Orthodoxy began with the counsel of a hidden nun, Mother Maria Orlovskaya, a healer and seer who spoke with the Mother of God herself.

Searching for an elder, he wandered for a long time until he met the great white elder, Mother Euphrosyne of Pochaev (1917–1993), a disciple of Elder Amphilochius. Soon he received from the old woman the seals of the Holy Spirit and the fullness of the Bogomil teaching of transfiguration and of discovering the divine potential in man. He was set aflame with a thirst to serve and to help people spiritually. In a single breath he wrote a whole series of 12 books about the steadfastness of the elders and the practice of acquiring the Holy Spirit, under the common title “The Fire of Repentance”.

In 1984, in the Dormition Cathedral in Smolensk, the Mother of God spoke to him from the icon of the Hodegetria. (“Go and reveal My love to the world,” She said.) The Word of Revelation continues to this day.

In 1985 he was ordained a priest of the true Orthodox Church (of the catacombs). The sacrament of ordination was performed by Schema-Metropolitan Gennadiy Sekach and Bishops Theodosius and Gregory.

Five years later, in 1990, Metropolitan Ioan Bodnarchuk, head of the BOAU, ordained Ioan Bogomil a bishop, thereby passing on to him the succession of the Orthodox branch of Saint Andrew the First-Called and of the elders of Solovetsky.

Books and teaching

Father Ioan is the author of several books about the martyrdom and the daring deeds of millions of people of different nations and faiths in the camps of the Stalinist Gulag.

Through Father Ioan the mystery of the redemptive sacrifice of the righteous people of the twentieth century was revealed to the world: the Gulag, the Holodomor, Chernobyl, as the second Golgotha of Christ in the form of thousands and millions of small christs and bogorodites. By the will of Heaven, he is destined to become the chronicler of the second Golgotha of Solovetsky.

With the second appeal, to which the Mother of God has called humanity from all over the world tirelessly for many years, Father Ioan received initiation from above into the archetypal, authentic spirituality of Christ and the Mother of God: Catharism and Bogomilism. It is a spirituality cleansed of layers of millennia-old formalism. It is a Christianity of the pure love of the Father and the Mother, nothing else.

This love, whose name is Minne, was handed down by the ancient Slavic Bogomils (the pre-Volodymyr Christianity of Andrew’s branch), by the Western European Cathars and by the Ukrainian nestiazhatel-katakombniki.

One of Ioan Bogomil’s most important initiatives was the creation of a worldwide youth movement to bring young people back to God and to present them with the ideal of a pure and holy life.

Ukraine, a second mother

Ukraine holds a special place in the life of Ioan Bogomil. He has a keen sense of his ancestors and of Ukrainian ancestral culture, of the soborny soul of the people. Ukrainians are not only the direct heirs of the Trypillian culture, the Scythians, the Aryans and the Cimmerians. The Ukrainian tradition reaches back into prehistory and even further, to the archetype of Hyperborea.

“In summer I was in Ukraine,” Father Ioan says of his childhood. “I did not know Russia at all… but I travelled all across Ukraine, far and wide. I understood why the Mother of God sent the Apostle Andrew to Kyiv… It is a special land, with a special melody and musicality of its language. Its archetypal quality and spirituality fascinated me.”

Ioan Bogomil

“Ukraine is my second mother. I was brought to faith by the Mother of God at Pochaev. The little town of Pochaev gave me the relics of Mother Euphrosyne. Here I was found worthy of things that have never been in the history of the world.”

The books of Ioan Bogomil can be called a revelation of love. Music is the perfect key to communicating love. It penetrates deep into the soul and awakens a full range of vibrations of the heart.

Ioan Bogomil always opens his heart first and only then proclaims. Let us understand that before us stands a great and rare chosen one, and we can feel it from any of his books. It does not matter which of his hundreds of books you pick up first. We must realise that we live in a special time: the epoch of Ioan Bogomil. The time will come when millions of people will say: ‘What a great soul has come into the world! What love he brings!’
